More Stores Opening on Thanksgiving, and Earlier, For 'Black Friday' Sales
In the last couple of years, as they've tried to get a jump on the competition with their "Black Friday" sales, some stores haven't even been waiting for the day after Thanksgiving to arrive, but have been opening to customers on the holiday itself. That trend is continuing this year, with more stores planning to open on Thanksgiving Day, and others to open even earlier on the holiday than they did last year. Sears and Target are two stores that will be open on Thanksgiving that weren't last year, with Target moving its opening time from midnight last year to 9 p.m. on Thursday this year. Stores that are moving up their Thanksgiving opening times from last year include Toys R Us, set to open at 8 p.m. instead of 9 p.m and Wal-Mart, set to open at 8 p.m instead of 10 p.m. But as stores have been moving to be open on Thanksgiving and open earlier, employees have been complaining, saying they should be allowed to spend the holiday with their families. Several petitions have been created on the website Change.org in favor of that argument, suggesting that stores stay closed on Thanksgiving.
