First a huge thanks to my awesome co-worker Don Molino's awesome wife Laura for this awesome jalapeno bread recipe.
So Daniel loves jalapenos right? So Don brings this bread to work and I'm like, OMG...my boyfriend would love this..he loves jalapenos. I must have the recipe! So Don passes me the recipe from Laura.
I have to admit...I have never cooked with fresh jalapenos in my life. So Daniel is about to come over from getting off work and I'm chopping up the jalapenos...got my onion and sausage all ready to go...so excited about making jalapeno bread for my boyfriend. Listening to the Christmas music..all is right with the world. :)
Then...I make the VITAL mistake of trying a slice of the jalapenos. (there is still no explanation for this...I was checking for freshness?) OMG. Then it was so spicy I freaked out and rubbed my hands all over my lips frantically. GRANTED...my hands that are full of jalapeno chopped business. My face is essentially completely on fire to the point Butch Browning might be alarmed.
My phone rings and it's THE GATE --- HE'S HERE!
AND I CAN'T BREATHE! MY LIPS ARE ON FIRE! WHAT WAS I THINKING?!
My roommate Cindy, "Drink some milk..drink some milk."
Daniel arrives.
"WHAT'S WRONG BABY!?!?! MICHELLE! ARE YOU OKAY?"
I'm basically on the floor in the kitchen with a pack of ice on my lips while sausage and onion remains on the stove. I request that Daniel assist me in finishing. How embarrassing.
Despite this drama...and because Daniel is awesome he ... just laughs .. and insists the end result is awesome.
I will never eat another jalapeno for the rest of my life.
Enjoy the recipe.
2 large cans (10) butter flavored biscuits (regular size, not the "grands")
1lb bulk sausage
8 oz sharp grated cheddar cheese
4 jalapeno peppers chopped
1 medium onion
olive or veg oil
First take biscuits out to get them to room temp.
Saute your onion in some oil and get them limp then add sausage..you don't have to cook it all the way, a little pink is cool. Drain.
Add cheese and jalapenos and mix it all up.
Grease a bunt or tube pan...line bottom with 4 biscuits, stretch them out to fit the bottom. Then put 1/4 of the sausage mix on top..repeat sausage and biscuit layers.
Bake at 350 for 40-50 min.
It's awesome.
